What Is Temporary Grain Storage?
Temporary grain storage is a cost-effective supplement or alternative to permanent grain bins. These systems typically consist of bunker walls, tarps, aeration, and fill/unload conveyors arranged into a grain pile system. They are typically used in case of overflow at harvest to provide expansion without permanent construction.
We Supply
LeMar Commercial Center Tower Systems
Custom Agri Systems, Inc. supplies central air and fill systems focused on optimizing your ROI. These systems deliver balanced aeration throughout the entire grain mass. Perimeter walls allow the outside air to enter evenly, and hooded louvered openings are designed to prevent blockages on the walls and aeration tower. Piled grain capacity can range from 100,000 to 2 million bushels.
Our team can design the most cost-effective temporary storage for your stored grain. The storage is engineered for easy installation, with factory-welded parts hoisted into place on-site. We can build the LeMar Commercial Center Tower or Mini Temporary Grain Storage System that fits your needs.

When to Use
Temporary Grain Storage vs. Permanent Bins
Harvest Overflow
Utilize temporary grain storage when your permanent storage is at full capacity.
Short-term Holding
Maintain good grain quality to time the market without construction lead times.
Location Testing
Testing demand at a new location before committing to permanent infrastructure.
Cost-Effectiveness
Temp. storage often has a lower upfront cost per bushel compared to permanent bins.
Why Choose CAS for Your
Temporary Storage
At Custom Agri Systems, Inc. we know the importance of having storage available that is customized specifically to meet your needs. Our team can help you select the options, sizes, and features so you can get the most out of your temporary storage system.
-
Maximum Durability
Durable tarps keep your grain safely covered and sealed away from the elements. This ensures optimum potential for salability and can be customized to suit your specific needs.
-
Easy to Install
The aeration tower, conveyor with truss and distribution box are welded in the factory and can be hoisted into place at your facility. Requiring minimal welding after being bolted together.
-
Balanced Aeration
Airflow is pushed through the entire grain mass without the need for costly turning. The perimeter walls allow outside air to enter the system evenly.
Capacity Ranges &
System Sizing
Custom Agri Systems, Inc. can help size a system for your site’s requirements. We supply LeMar center air systems with computer-assisted design to optimize performance and minimize per-bushel storage costs.
- Systems range from 100,000 to 2,000,000 bushels
- Bunker wall height (48″–120″) affects both capacity and airflow surface area
- Wall layout (rectangular vs. oval) affects grain footprint

What is the difference between a bunker system and a center air system?
A bunker system uses walls, tarps, and under-pile aeration pipe to store grain in a flat or low-profile pile. It is simpler and more economical than a central air system, and works well for shorter-term storage or smaller volumes. A center air system adds a vertical aeration tower and distribution box at the center of the pile, which pushes airflow evenly through the entire grain mass from the perimeter inward. This delivers performance closer to full floor aeration in an upright bin, making it better suited for larger volumes and longer storage periods where grain quality maintenance is critical.
What is included in a Center Air Temporary Grain Storage System?
LeMar’s center air grain storage solutions include the tarp, aeration tower, distribution box, aeration wall, slant back wall frame, base material, and axial fans. Each aspect of the system is specifically chosen to fit your needs.
What base do I need under a temporary grain storage system?
Acceptable base materials include ag lime, asphalt, concrete, or other locally available compacted materials. The key requirements are that the base is firm, level, and able to support the weight of the grain pile without shifting or settling. A concrete or asphalt pad offers the best long-term performance and simplifies cleanout, while compacted ag lime is a common lower-cost option for seasonal use. Custom Agri Systems, Inc. can help you decide based on your site conditions during the design process.
How does aeration in a temporary system compare to a permanent bin?
A properly designed center air system with perimeter walls and a dedicated aeration tower can deliver airflow effectiveness similar to full floor aeration in an upright bin. The key is matching the fan size and airflow rate to the volume and geometry of the pile. Undersized fans are the most common cause of poor grain quality in temporary storage. LeMar’s systems use computer-assisted design to optimize airflow and minimize dead zones, and CAS sizes the aeration package specifically for your pile dimensions and target commodity.
